The Lexington Fire Department responded to a house fire on Linden Walk on Saturday, April 11 in the early afternoon.
LFD was dispatched to 371 Linden Walk, a duplex, at 12:15 p.m., according to LFD Battalion Chief Jon Ott, after the resident called 911 as their house became “engulfed in smoke.”
Ott said upon arrival the department saw a large structure fire in the upstairs unit of the house and that the origin of the fire was “hard to find” due to the building’s age.
Three people and a cat were evacuated from the house safely while LFD fought the fire “defensively,” according to Ott.
After initially evacuating, a person who was inside the house during the fire said they “army crawled” back inside to save their cat, Butters, from the fire.
All six residents of the duplex have been displaced for at least one night while fire investigators determine the extent of the damage caused by the fire, according to Ott.
Ott said there were no injuries, and the investigation into what caused the fire remains ongoing.
Since moving in at the start of August, the residents said they have not noticed any electrical issues that could have caused the fire, but do believe it may stem from squirrels living in the attic, though it is not confirmed.
This is a developing story.
