Blood banks have been facing a major shortage of essential blood supply following the corona virus outbreak and the 21-day nationwide lock-down. This has hampered critical medical series across the country. In the backdrop of this Ward 122's Corporator Vaishali Patil and nominated Corporator Shrinivas Tripathi organised a blood donation campaign in collaboration with the Dr. LH Hiranandani Hospital in Powai.
Countless residents from Powai assembled at the Jain Mandir, near the IIT Main gate, while maintaining social distancing. The major campaign went on from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with the entire endeavour having collected 65 units of blood. Speaking to 'The Watchdog News' about the blood donation campaign, Vaishali Patil said, “We are in a time of national crisis, our rationale behind this drive was clear and simple, the country is under effective lock down till April 14, to prevent the spread of the corona virus and during this critical phase we must ensure essential supplies.”
“While the move is pivotal for the fate of the country it is our duty to make sure blood banks which are essential for the functioning of our medical services and must remain full and be maintained at optimum levels. We saw exceptional participation from the residents of our constituency and are grateful to them that they came out to donate blood in this testing times for a national cause.” Added Patil
Corporater Shrinivas Tripathi said, “We tied up with Hiranandani Hospital to make this happen, as they have the technical know-how. The collaborative effort significantly restocked our essential blood bank supply, with the effort having collected 65 units of blood.” The campaign was a welcome move according the residents donating blood there, and have unanimously stressed on its need, now more than ever.
