In a major development the Powai police has initiated ‘COVID police’ a volunteer initiative organised to allow regular citizens to assist the manpower strained police department and other frontline workers to maintain contaminants efforts in the upscale suburb.
Speaking exclusively to ‘The Watchdog News’ Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Milind Khetle of the Sakinaka Police Division said, “COVID police is a volunteer initiative allowing regular citizens of Powai and Sakinaka to come forward and offer their assistance to the brave men and women of the Powai Police Station to counter the menace of COVID-19 which has plagued our suburb.”
According to sources in the Powai police station the roles and responsibilities of COVID police volunteers are to maintain discipline and social distancing in the containment zones, aid the people living in and around containment areas with food, rations and other essentials. To coordinate and cooperate with the frontline workers, rendering service during the ongoing pandemic. Volunteers will be issued identification cards from the Rambaugh police station.
Speaking about the efforts put in by the first batch of COVID police volunteers, Senior Police Inspector (Sr.PI) Sudhakar Kamble of the Powai police station told ‘The Watchdog News’ “The volunteers are highly motivated and have their heart in the right place. They are rendering selfless service towards the community and humanity.”
Interested Powaites may volunteer to join the COVID police by registering at the Rambaugh police station.
