Two persons have been held by the Powai police for selling marijuana amidst the lockdown, with the cops having recovered 1.6 kg of the drug worth Rs 40,500 along with cash from the two. The two were arrested following a tip off about their activities in Powai police beat number 2 while a team including Police Inspector Dhamunse, Assistant Police Inspector Sanjay Lad, Police Sub Inspector Pravin Mahamuni, Police Sub Inspector Yadav, Police Sub Inspector Madhuri Zhendge, crime detection staff, surveillance staff, Lady Constables Redkar, Patil were patrolling the streets enforcing the lockdown.
“We raided the area in Morarji Nagar and arrested the two identified as Ajgari Begum Sayyad Ali (65), Yasmin Mohammed Ibrahim Shah (37), Pradip aka Padya Gautam Shirwade (30) and Wakit Javed Saeed Mohammed Khan (28) were apprehended. Apart from the marijuana, cash worth Rs 38,850 was also recovered from them. They have been charged under section 8 (K) of the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Of the quartet, Ajgari has been arrested in the past for a similar offence.
