Powai Cop on the Frontlines of the Fight against Corona Succumbs to Illness; Tested Negative for COVID-19

Havaldar Dhondiba Bawdhane, a police mobile van driver from the Powai Police station, succumbed to an illness at the Raja wadi Hospital in Vidya Vihar on 20 April 2020. The policeman had been displaying symptoms such as cold and cough from 14 April 2020 and had been seeking medical treatment at a local OPD while on sick leave.

The condition of the deceased began to deteriorate over the next few days and got himself admitted to the Raja wadi hospital on 20 April 2020. The policeman succumbed to his illness while undergoing treatment the same day.

Speaking about Havaldar Bawdhane’s demise, his colleagues from Powai police station said, “Havaldar Bawdhane was a dutiful and diligent policeman, he devoted his entire life to the force and had been fighting on the frontlines of the Powai polices battle against this deadly virus. He will be remembered for his extraordinary commitment to duty.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sakinaka Division Milind Khetle said, "He was an exceptional policeman and had served the department honourably for 22 years. I have had the privilege of interacting with him personally on multiple occasions and can tell you that our department lost a good man. I had attended his funeral earlier today and interacted with the family."

Officials have confirmed to 'The Watchdog News' that the cause of death "was pneumonia and not coronavirus related." Medical evaluations have revealed that the deceased has tested negative for COVID-19.
