Amidst the Corona outbreak in the country and with the state of Maharashtra having the greatest number of reported cases. Vilash Kusher, a Powai resident and social activist living near the Powai English Highschool (PEHS) has initiated a rather unique effort to health and safety awareness during the pandemic, by painting public interest messages urging residents to remain at home and adhere to the lock down.
Kusher painted messages on the intersection near Chaitanya Nagar and Hiranandani Hospital leading to the IIT Main Gate saying, ‘Go Corona' and 'I am my own guard'. When asked about the rationale behind his initiative he said, “I have seen people leaving their homes without any significant reason, with certain people are not adhering to the shutdown. I wanted to write a message in a place that will be seen by errant citizens roaming outside and endangering the community, so that it rings their conscience and prompts them to go back home.”
Kusher did not stop by just writing messages on the road but also made a large wooden plank of messages such as 'I am my guard' and 'Save yourself, save others' to carry around the area. The public service initiative by the Powaiite is a welcome move in these testing times and one that has met with an immensely positive response by people in his area.
