The MHADA colony in Kanjurmarg witnessed a COVID-19 positive case late last night, when officials from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Health department visited the housing colony and transported a corona positive patient along with two of the patient’s relatives to a quarantine facility. The patient has been identified as a nurse, working at the Shushrusha Senior Citizens Hospital, in Shivaji Park, Dadar.
The BMC officials arrived at Kanjurmarg West’s densely populated MHADA colony at around 11:30 pm on 11 April 2020. Following which the officials went to the patients home, in block number one. The patient along with two other members of her family were taken to a COVID-19 centre for quarantine. The entire home was then vacated following which the entire floor was sealed and designated as a containment area.
“We saw government officials and local police, arrive late night, at around 11:30, they went up to the fourth floor and transported the corona patient and other members from her house to the quarantine centre. They then sanitised the house and sealed the entire floor. The patient lived here as a tenant and was working as a nurse in Dadar’s Shushrusha hospital,” said a MHADA resident.
This development comes at a time when the city has extended the lockdown by two weeks (Till 30 April 2020). The state of Maharashtra is currently leading with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country with 1,982 cases out of which 1,298 come from Mumbai. The city saw 293 suspected patients and 189 positive patients as of 4:00 pm 11 April 2020.
