A former policeman murdered his middle-aged son in a fit of rage and was subsequently arrested by the Police. The accused, 60-year-old Gulab Galande hacked his son Harish to death with a sickle at their residence in their Panchkruti residence, Powai late on Monday.
Powai police said that the accused was fed up of being harassed by his son, who worked as a railway constable and was an alcoholic. The victim had allegedly returned home drunk each night and regularly created hassles ending up in bouts of violence. On the night of the murder, Harish threw a bottle at his father, when Gulab intervened to prevent him from attacking his wife. It was during this confrontation that the accused killed his son.
Police reached the scene of the crime and arrested the accused and booked him under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder. According to the police, the victim lived with his wife, kids and his parents at Ganesh Nagar near Panchkruti, with Harish working as a constable attached with the Andheri Railway Police.
The victim was said to have hit a rough patch suffering financially, prompting him to take to the bottle, eventually becoming an alcoholic, following which he began to regularly lash out on his wife and disrupt the peace at home. “On Monday, around 11pm, Harish came home drunk and had a spat with his wife which turned violent, Gulab tried to intervene, only to find his son charging at him with a liquor bottle.
He fended off the attack however in a fit of rage, picked up a sickle and slashed Harish on the head, continuing in his enraged frenzy Gulab went on to slash him him with the sickle, inflicting wounds on his stomach, arms and face until he bled to death. The rest of the family stood in shock during this violent encounter.” informed the police.
“The Police control room (PCR) was informed about the incident and a team from Powai police station was rushed to the spot. When they took Harish to a nearby hospital, however was declared dead prior to arrival,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone X Ankit Goyal.
