Two more positive cases of COVID-19 hit Powai today, making it a grand total of five cases in the upscale suburb. BMC officials received information about two positive coronavirus cases at around 2:00 am in the morning and arrived at the concerned housing society around that time.
"Two more cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Powai, as a result civic authorities have cordoned off the surrounding areas, to contain community spreading. the situation has been taken care of and there is absolutely no need to panic. Residents are requested to adhere the lockdown and remain home at all times," said a civic official.
Speaking about the incident Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sakinaka Division Milind Khetle said, “The BMC has declared specific areas around Chaitanya Nagar, as containment areas. Movement in and out of the designated containment zone has been strictly restricted. Essential goods and refreshments required by the BMC and other civic authorities there are brought to them."
“Personnel from Powai police station have been deployed to maintain security at the containment centre and are not authorised to let anyone in or out unless, explicitly directed by the officials from the BMC. We have been regularly visiting the concerned area to maintain law and order,” added the senior police official.
The BMC team sealed the surrounding areas at around 10:30 am. The two patients are a married couple who contracted the virus from their tenant who had been tested positive of the corona virus on 2 April, 2020.
The BMC officials had tested the couple for COVID-19 three days ago, their blood samples came out positive for the virus today, following which the BMC and Powai police took action. The couple has been transported for treatment at a quarantine facility.
