Powai witnessed two more cases of the Coronavirus as of Tuesday this week, placing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the suburb at 12. Earlier today, a resident living in one of Powai's major slum establishment was tested positive and taken to a quarantine centre.
The patient owns a juice shop near the famous Sadhana Hotel, situated close to the IIT Main Gate. Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Health department cordoned off the area and designated it as a 'containment zone.' With personnel from Powai police station deployed there to maintain 'law and order.'
Earlier this week, on Monday, a photojournalist from Powai, living in an IIT Staff quarter, near Bunt Sangha's SM Shetty College of Science Commerce and Management studies was tested positive of COVID-19. Officials from the health department took the journalist to a secure quarantine facility and sealed the area, designating it as a containment zone, with additional police personnel deployed to maintain vigil there
These developments come at a time when the state is leading the count in terms of positive coronavirus cases, with the city contributing to a majority of the state's numbers. The surge in Coronavirus cases in S Ward has resulted in the areas under its jurisdiction to be declared as 'red zones.'
